Apple Grape Nut Bread Recipe

For a great combination of baking apple; use Granny Smith, Braeburn, Jonagold, Empire, Regent, Spartan, Newtown apples or a mixture of your favorite apples together.

Bread pan size: 2 loaf pans
Temp: 350°F degrees
Bread baking time: 50 to 60 minutes
Servings: Makes 2 bread loafs

2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
dash of salt
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1 cup grape-nuts flaked
1 1/2 cup chopped cooking apples
1/8 teaspoon lemon juice
2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 eggs, well beaten
2/3 cup 2 % milk
2 1/4 tablespoons molasses
1/4 cup butter or shortening, melted and cooled

Apple Bread Baking Directions

Wash, peel and core apples. Chop apple in small chunks, in a small bowl combine lemon juice and apples, toss together to keep apples from browning, set aside.

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and spices into mixing bowl. Stir in brown sugar, cereal, apples and nuts.

In a separate bowl, combine together eggs, milk, molasses and shortening. Add egg mixture to flour mixture and blend just until all flour is dampened.

Preheat the oven. Pour apple bread batter into well greased 8 x 4 inch bread loaf pan. Bake apple bread for allotted time. Cool apple bread for 10 minutes then turn loaf onto a baking rack. Serve warm with honey butter.
