Apple Streusel Bread Recipe

For a great combination of baking apple; use Granny Smith, Braeburn, Jonagold, Empire, Regent, Spartan, Newtown apples or a mixture of your favorite apples together.

Pan size: 15 x 10 x 1 inch baking sheet
Temp: 350°F degrees
Baking time: 30 minutes
Servings: Makes 2 loafs

1 - 16 ounce package frozen bread dough loaf
2 tablespoon butter, softened
1 1/2 cup peeled, cored, chopped tart apples
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter, melted
2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
2 tablespoon sugar or honey
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup slivered almonds

Apple Streusel Coffee Bread Baking Directions

Thaw frozen bread dough according to the package directions. Divide bread dough in half; let bread dough rest for about 10 minutes.

On a floured surface roll each dough half into a 8-inch square. Spread each with 1 tablespoon of softened butter.

Arrange half of the apples down the center of each bread dough square. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon then sprinkle over apples. Cutting toward filling, make 2 inch long cuts in dough at 1 inch intervals on both sides of apples.

Fold strips alternating over the apples; fold strip ends under the loaf as you go.

Place bread loaves on a greased 15 x 10 x 1 inch baking sheet. Brush tops with the melted butter. Stir together flour and granulated sugar. Cut in the 1 tablespoon butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle half the crumb mixture over each bread loaf; top with sliced almonds. Cover; let rise in a warm place until nearly double about 45 to 60 minutes. Bake Apple Streusel Coffee Bread for the allotted time or until golden brown. Serve warm. Makes 2 loafs.
