For a great combination of baking apple; use Granny Smith apples with Braeburn apples, or Northern Spies apples with Newtown apples or all apples together. Pan size: 9 inch round baking dish |
4 cups finely chopped tart apples
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream
1 egg
1 pie shell, unbaked
Apple Pie Topping;
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
1. Mix both sugars and 2 tablespoons flour; add sour cream, egg, vanilla and salt. Stir in apples; pour apples into a unbaked pie shell. Bake in a pre heated oven.
2. For the topping; combine both sugars with 1 teaspoon cinnamon and flour; cut in butter.
3. Sprinkle topping over apple pie and return to oven. Bake for another 20 minutes at the lower temp.
